The first season of WWE LFG [Legends & Future Greats] has come to an end with the first winners of the show being determined.
The finals of the reality TV series took place on Sunday, May 18th and saw Tyra Mae Steele and Jasper Troy emerge as the first-ever winners of the show. As a result of the victory, Steele and Troy have been offered NXT contracts. Steele [Tamyra Mensah-Stock] won gold in freestyle wrestling at the 2020 Olympics and Troy [Antione Frazier] has a background in American Football.
The show saw aspiring wrestlers look to kickstart their future in the company by competing against others while being mentored by a legend/Hall of Famer. The 4 veterans who were on hand to coach the rookies were The Undertaker, Booker T, Bubba Ray Dudley and Mickie James. Additionally, top stars from the main roster made guest appearances throughout the season.
Steele was on The Undertaker’s team and Troy was on Booker T’s team. Following the victory, Steele and Troy spoke to Sports Illustrated to speak about their historic wins:
Steele: “I’m so excited. It’s been a long time coming. I swear I’ve just been waiting for my moment to shine. I just feel elated. I just feel so, so freaking blessed.”
Troy: “This is the first thing I ever won. I’ve never won a championship or a playoff, you know. So to me, this is like a Super Bowl moment. But I see how someone like DeVonta Smith or A.J. Brown will be like, ‘winning the Super Bowl was cool, but now it’s like what’s next?’”
Will WWE LFG Return?
The A&E series has already been renewed for another season and with a changed line-up as Michelle McCool is rumoured to be replacing Mickie James as one of the coaches. While speaking with Denise Salcedo, Micke James stated that the show has been picked up for at least 3 more years:
“It was so much fun. It was a lot of fun, and to be the first ever and to have the success, to know that it’s gotten picked up for not just another season, but for three years, so like six seasons, hopefully. That’s a big damn deal. So I loved it, and you’re welcome.”
