On October 6th the latest round of reports regarding CM Punk making a return to WWE after nearly a decade away were published.
As first reported by the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, talks have taken place between the two sides and there have been more rumours that the shock return could happen:
Regarding C.M. Punk, there is obviously tons of talk regarding him returning. There have been rumors that it’s happening, but those in WWE have only said that no deal is completed and those close to Punk have told us that it is his intention to return and the two sides are in talks. One would expect if such a deal is made that Survivor Series weekend in Chicago would be the time to do the surprise return
Many predict that if a CM Punk return were to take place then it would be at the PLE in Chicago. In a follow-up later in the day, Haus of Wrestling believe that Punk making his return at Survivor Series was described as “a safe bet.”
As the day was coming to a close, a large update was provided courtesy of Fightful Select. The running theme was that no one on the talent or creative side has been spoken to about a Punk return at this time, but those close to Punk believe that he is still pitching a return to the company.
If talks were to take place then it is also reported that Punk would need to make amends for his behaviour back in 2014 when the infamous walk out took place. With the former AEW World Champion’s alleged behaviour hitting the headlines throughout 2023, one top star in WWE was noted as saying “he wouldn’t be able to pull any of his sh*t here. There’s nobody here he could jump without getting his ass handed to him.”
In conclusion, at the time of writing the rumours regarding CM Punk making a return to WWE after a 9-year absence are exactly that, rumours. However, if both sides are able to come to an agreement and multiple talks take place, it’s not impossible that “Cult of Personality” rings out in Chicago one more time.
