Bryan Danielson Says Vince McMahon Can Be Overprotective

Bryan Danielson has revealed that he wants to push his limits in All Elite Wrestling, following the former WWE star’s surprise appearance at the AEW All Out pay per view. In the post-show media scrum, Danielson spoke about multiple topics, including what lead him to sign with All Elite Wrestling.

Bryan revealed that the AEW tribute show for the late Brodie Lee was something that he very much admired, something that another new AEW signee, CM Punk, has [raised the company for.

“So I heard something over the past week that one of the things that really turned Punk was the Brodie Lee show. It was also one of the things — I saw it and so many of us loved him so much and so we saw it and saw how special it was and we saw, like okay, we’re gonna stop what we’re normally doing. I thought that was really special to me,”

The new AEW signee went on to reveal that WWE made a courteous offer to get him to re-sign, and spoke very positively about his former employers.. However, Bryan Danielson went on to say that Vince McMahon could sometimes be too cautious with how they treated him. The former WWE Champion also revealed that in All Elite Wrestling he wants to push himself as much as possible

“So that was when I really started kind of thinking about my contract coming up,” he continued. But the final decision, honestly, was just like, I started thinking about things — WWE was so gracious with me as far as the offer that they gave me. They were gonna let me go do some other stuff on the outside, but, I hate to say this, Vince sometimes — He and I have a great relationship. I love him, I do. Sometimes he’s overprotective of me. I want to be able to push my limits. That’s one of the things that I love about this, is like the physicality of what we do out there and being able to push my limits and being able to do that here in a safe manner is one of the things that really drew me here.

Bryan Danielson initially retired back in February 2016, following the effects of multiple concussions. He would frequently appear on WWE TV as the General Manager of SmackDown Live. Bryan was cleared to compete again in March 2018, and made his return at WrestleMania 34. In the match, the leader of the Yes! Movement teamed with Shane McMahon to face the team of Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn.
