Backstage Details Behind AEW Sponsorship

The Like A Dragon Gaiden Street Fight on AEW Dynamite was very well-received.

In the latest chapter of the Kenny Omega vs. Don Callis saga, Omega, Chris Jericho, Kota Ibushi and Paul Wight defeated Konosuke Takeshita, Brian Cage, Kyle Fletcher and Powerhouse Hobbs.

The Sega videogame was a big sponsor for the November 15th episode of Dynamite, with a Street Fight inspired by the game being the final match that took place on the show. Highlights included a bicycle being used as a weapon and Paul Wight being slammed onto a car in the parking lot.

With the match being presented due to sponsorship tie-ins, more information has come to light regarding the specifics.

As reported by Fightful Select, the sponsorship was valued at 6 figures and was largely put together thanks to Kenny Omega. There were also discussions to hold the match at the Full Gear pay-per-view, but the decision was made for Dynamite as more people would be likely to watch the match as it was on free TV.

AEW Match Sees Last-Minute Replacement

While Paul Wight was always factored into creative plans, Brian Cage was not. Cage was a last minute replacement as Sammy Guevara is still out with a concussion that was suffered at WrestleDream on October 1st. It should also be noted that Cage’s wife Melissa Santos gave birth to their second child 24 hours before the Dynamite match.
