Details have been announced as to how WWE will crown the first World Heavyweight Champion.

As announced by Triple H during the Backlash press conference, the tournament will begin on the May 8th episode of Raw, and will continue on the May 12th episode of SmackDown, leading to the finals at the Night of Champions Premium Live Event.

The rules of the tournament are as follows:

• Two triple threat matches will take place on Raw, with the winners facing each other later in the night to determine a winner for that brand.
• The same format will take place on SmackDown, with the winners of each triple threat determining the champion for the blue brand.
• The winners from each brand will face each other at Night of Champions, where the winner will be crowned the inaugural World Heavyweight Champion

The new championship was announced on the April 24th episode of Raw. The new title has been unveiled due to Roman Reigns now being exclusive to SmackDown, leaving Raw without a world champion.
