WWE Announces WrestleMania Championship Match

WWE have officially announced that Roman Reigns will defend the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania.

The American Nightmare won the 2023 Men’s Royal Rumble match at the Premium Live Event on Saturday, January 28th. Rhodes would open the following episode of Raw, announcing that he will take on Reigns at WrestleMania.

While the placement of the match has not been confirmed, it is expected that this match will be the last match of the two night WrestleMania, as has been seen with Reigns’ previous 2 title defences at the Showcase of the Immortals. The Tribal Chief will be defending the Universal Championship for a third straight year, having defeated Edge and Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 36 and Brock Lesnar in a winner takes all match at WrestleMania 37, capturing both the Universal and WWE Championships in the process.

It should be noted that the match is being billed as for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship, as opposed to just one of the titles. This announcement seems to dispel the rumours that Reigns may defend both titles in separate matches, and also a potential match with The Rock at the Hollywood event.

With the main event of night two of WrestleMania seemingly set, the other Rumble winner’s title match may be the last match of night one. Following Rhea Ripley being victorious in the Women’s Rumble match at the same event, Ripley announced on the January 30th Raw that she will be challenging Charlotte Flair for the SmackDown Women’s Championship.
