The January 9th 2023 Wrestling Observer Newsletter containing the star ratings for Wrestle Kingdom 17 has been published.

Dave Meltzer has rated each match from the NJPW pay-per-view, with one match breaking the 5* scale. The IWGP United States Championship match, which saw Kenny Omega defeat Will Ospreay in the penultimate match of the show, obtained a 6 1/4 star rating from Meltzer, one of the highest rated matches of all time.

The high rating equals Kenny Omega vs. Kazuchika Okada from Dominion 2017, with only the rematch in 2018 obtaining a higher rating of 7*.
