Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods have added to their lengthy list of championship accomplishments, winning the NXT Tag Team Championships at the Deadline Premium Live Event.
The match took place on Saturday December 10th, where The New Day defeated Pretty Deadly to capture the gold. The crowd were behind the challengers right from the opening bell, strongly cheering Woods and Kingston. Then match included some of The New Day’s signature comedy, including a twerk-off in the opening stages of the match.
The closing moments would see multiple fake outs of being struck with the titles after Elton Prince brought the championships in, with the referee waving off the attempt. Woods got actually struck by the gold, but kicked out of the pinfall attempt. The New Day then hit The Midnight Hour onto Prince to win the match and the championships.
The victory marks 12 title reigns as tag team champions for The New Day as a group. While Kingston, Woods and Big E have held the Raw and SmackDown Tag Team Championships on multiple occasions, this is their first reign with the NXT Tag Team Titles. The New Day were at one point the longest reigning champions in the history of the company, a record only recently broken by The Usos.
