The Usos Break WWE Record

The Usos have made WWE history following the events that took place on the November 11th episode of SmackDown, breaking the record for the longest single reign with the WWE Tag Team Championships in WWE history.

Jimmy and Jey Uso would defend the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships against Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods of the New Day on SmackDown in the opening match of the show, with The New Day’s record also at stake.

The New Day would take control early, with Kingston taking out the champions on the outside as the show went to a commercial break. The Usos would eventually take control, isolating Kofi Kingston. Woods would eventually get tagged into the match, getting the upper hand of both of the champions. At one point it looked like The New Day would win the titles, as Xavier Woods hit a top rope leg drop for a near fall. The match would end when The Usos hit Kofi Kingston with the 1D in mid-air to retain the championships.

The rivalry between The Usos and The New Day has become one of the most historic in modern WWE times. Each team hold multiple victories over the other to capture the titles. Combined, both teams have held tag team gold 19 times, with The New Day being 11 time champions and The Usos being 8 time champions.

The victory now extends The Usos reign to 482 days. The New Day’s record currently stands at 483 days. As their is no scheduled defence of the titles, Jimmy and Jey will break the record for longest reign with the titles. The Usos first won the SmackDown Tag Team Championships at the Money in the Bank kick-off show back in July 2021, defeating Rey and Dominik Mysterio to become champions. The Usos would go on to defend the championships for the next year, taking the reign to the next level in May 2022, defeating Raw Tag Team Champions RK Bro to become the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions.
