Roman Reigns Tops PWI 500

Roman Reigns has ranked number one in the Pro Wrestling Illustrated [PWI] 500 for a second time.

Reigns has been named the number one wrestler for the first time since 2016, knocking 2021 winner Kenny Omega off of the top spot to claim the prestigious accolade for the second time.

The PWI 500 evaluation period takes place from July 1st 2021 to June 30th 2022. To gain entry into the PWI 500, a wrestler must have had a minimum of 10 matches in total or wrestled 6 matches in separate months. The ranking criteria takes into account in-ring achievement, influence, technical ability and competiton.

Roman Reigns has had a dominant reign as Universal Champion during the 2022 PWI 500 period. The Tribal Chief has held the title for all of the 2022 evaluation period, defeating names such as John Cena, Finn Balor and WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg. Reigns would take the dominance to the next level at WrestleMania 38, defeating Brock Lesnar in the main event to hold both the WWE and Universal titles to become the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion.

The PWI 500 started in 1991, with Hulk Hogan being the first ever winner of the award. Other previous winners of the PWI 500 include Bret Hart, John Cena, CM Punk and AJ Styles.
