AEW President Tony Khan has announced that the AEW World Championship and AEW Trios Championships have been vacated.
The removal of titles from AEW World Champion CM Punk and AEW Trios Champions Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks are reportedly due to a backstage altercation that took place following All Out. Tony Khan would open Dynamite to announce that Punk and Elite are no longer champions, with all parties involved winning the titles at All Out.
Following the announcement that both titles had been vacated, Khan would then state ow new champions would be crowned. In regards to the Trios Championship, it was announced that the pre-announced match between The Best Friends and Death Triangle would now be for the Trios Titles.
The next AEW World Champion would be decided in a 6 man tournament. The first round matches will see Hangman Adam Page face Bryan Danielson and Sammy Guevara would face Darby Allin. The winner of Page and Danielson will go on to face Chris Jericho in the semi-final and the winner of Guevara and Allin will face Jon Moxley in the semi-final. The final will take place at AEW Grand Slam on September 21st, where a new champion will be crowned.
