The second ever barbed wire deathmatch in AEW will be taking place on the July 20th episode of Dynamite.
Despite going to war in both the Anarchy in the Arena match and Blood and Guts, the rivalry between Eddie Kingston and Chris Jericho is far from over. On the July 6th episode of Dynamite, Kingston would appear in the ring for a promo segment to address his team’s win at Blood and Guts. Jericho would then appear on the big screen, revealing he was backstage in the parking lot. The JAS would then go on to attack Ruby Soho while Kingston watched on enraged.
The Mad King would respond to this attack on the July 8th episode of AEW Rampage. Kingston stated that what Jericho and his group did, they will pay. Kingston would then stated that he would make Jericho bleed, laying down the challenge for a barbed wire deathmatch.
As mentioned previously, this is the second barbed wire deathmatch to take place in All Elite Wrestling. The first would take place at the 2021 Revolution pay-per-view, where Kenny Omega would successfully defend the AEW World Championship against Jon Moxley in the deathmatch with added explosions. The match was praised but the aftermath with anticlimactic pyrotechnics ended on a sour note for the AEW fans.
To prevent the numbers game being advantageous for Chris Jericho, the Jericho Appreciation Society will be locked inside a shark cage for the duration of the match.
