Interim AEW World Champion Crowned At Forbidden Door

The main event of Forbidden Door saw Jon Moxley defeat Hiroshi Tanahashi to become the Interim AEW World Champion.

The match had a big fight feel in the main event, with fans inside The United Center being split as to who they wanted to win the match. Mox nearly won the match via count-out by driving Tanahashi through the announce table. The Ace would however beat the 10 count to allow the match to continue.

Following a kick by Tanahashi, Moxley fell to the outside. When the camera returned to Mox, blood was seen from the forehead. The blood spread quickly as Mox continued to fight through the pain. The match ended with Jon Moxley hitting the Death Rider to become victorious.

The victory marks Moxley’s second reign with the AEW World Title, becoming the first person to hold the top prize in All Elite Wrestling on more than one occasion. Moxley would first hold the belt after defeating inaugural champion Chris Jericho at the 2020 AEW Revolution pay-per-view. The reason for requiring an Interim World Champion is becasue current champion CM Punk recently announced an injury. However, AEW President Tony Khan made the decision not to vacate the title, and instead crown the interim champion. Providing that Jon Moxley does not lose the championship, both he and Punk will battle when Punk returns to crown the Undisputed AEW World Champion.
