Brock Lesnar returned to WWE on the June 17th edition of SmackDown. Lesnar would confront Roman Reigns in the main event of the show, setting up a showdown at SummerSlam.
In the main event if SmackDown, Roman Reigns defended the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Riddle. The match itself was competitive, with Riddle hitting big moves throughout. The champion would frequently take control with the methodical style that has been seen in recent Roman Reigns matches. At one point it looked like Riddle might win the match, as The Original Bro would counter a spear into an RKO. Reigns would however kick out at the very last moment to allow the match to continue. Reigns would then catch Riddle lout of mid-air with a spear to retain the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.
The Usos and Paul Heyman would celebrate with Roman Reigns in the ring after the match. Reigns would ask for a microphone and stated that there is no one left to challenge for the title. As The head of the Table demanded the WWE Universe acknowledge him, the music of Brock Lesnar rang out through the arena. The beast would enter to a rapturous response from the live crowd, smiling and making his way to the ring.
Lesnar would hit Reigns with an F5, quickly followed by 2 more F5’s to The Usos as the program went off of the air. It was later announced by WWE that Reigns and Lesnar would face off against each other once again, this time at Summerslam in a Last Man Standing Match.
The appearance by Lesnar is the first time since the main event of WrestleMania 38. Lesnar, who was WWE Champion at the time, faced Universal Champion Roman Reigns in a title unification match. Reigns would defeat Lesnar to extend the reign of the Universal Championship, which currently stands at over 650 days.
