Paige has announced that July 7th will be her last day in WWE.
The former Divas Champion posted the announcement on social media on Friday June 10th. Paige stated that she is grateful for all the opportunities that WWE have given her over the years, in particular for the company making “An 18 year old British pale emo girl that didn’t look like your average diva” the chance of a lifetime.
Paige was first known to the WWE Universe back in late 2012, first wrestling on the NXT roster. Paige would win a tournament in 2013 to become the first ever NXT Women’s Champion. While holding the title, Paige would make the surprise debut on the main roster the night after WrestleMania 30. In one of the biggest Raw after WrestleMania moments in WWE history, Paige would shockingly defeat AJ Lee in an impromptu match to win the Divas Championship.
Paige would battle injuries throughout her career, previously undergoing neck surgery in 2016. The anti-diva would briefly return in 2017 as part of the Absolution faction, teaming with Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville. However, Paige would suffer another neck injury at a house show in late 2017, which would lead to her in-ring retirement. In an emotional statement to the WWE Universe the night after WrestleMania 34, Paige officially retired from in-ring competition.
Paige’s inspirational career was turned into a movie entitled Fighting With My Family, which received high praise from critics and fans.
