Ronda Rousey is the new SmackDown Women’s Champion following a victory over Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania Backlash.
Rousey defeated Flair in an “I Quit” match at the Premium Live Event to capture the title for the first time in her career. The match saw multiple kendo stick shots used along with Flair attempting to throw a television camera at Rousey. The match would then move into the live crowd area, where Flair would trap Rousey in the stair rail before moving the fight back to the ringside area.
The closing moment of the match saw Charlotte hit a natural Selection on Ronda Rousey onto a steel chair, but Ronda still refused to quit. Rousey would lock in an armbar with Charlotte’s arm locked in a chair to force The Queen to quit.
This is Ronda Rousey’s fist reign with the SmackDown Women’s Championship and her second title reign in WWE. Rousey previously held the Raw Women’s Championship in her first run in WWE back in 2018, defeating Alexa Bliss at SummerSlam 2018.
After the match, it was reported by WWE that Flair had suffered an injury in the match. Kayla Braxton stated that the injury to Flair was a fractured radius. However, in a follow-up report by Fightful Select, it has been reported that this injury is only storyline to write Charlotte Flair off of TV.
