Dolph Ziggler is the new number one contender to the NXT Championship. Ziggler earned the right to challenge Bron Breakker for the top title in NXT by defeating Tommaso Ciampa on the February 22nd edition of the show.
The match ending came following an attack by a rogue cameraman on Tommaso Ciampa, with the attack taking place while the referee was checking on Dolph Ziggler. The Raw star would then hit a superkick onto Ciampa to become victorious. After the match, the cameraman was revealed to be Ziggler’s tag team partner Robert Roode. The Dirty Dawgs tried to attack Ciampa further after the match, but Bron Breakker came in to make the save. The NXT Champion then made the challenge of Breakker and Ciampa vs. Ziggler and Roode for the following week. The Dirty Dawgs then stormed back to the ring and brawled as the show went off the air, with multiple referees attempting to break up the melee.
Ziggler first made a surprise appearance on NXT during the February 8th broadcast. The former World heavyweight Champion’s motivation was that while he has achieved many accolades in his time in WWE, he has never become the NXT Champion. The number one contenders match was scheduled due to multiple weeks of Dolph Ziggler appearing on NXT and Ciampa appearing on Monday Night Raw to provide interference in each other’s matches. The match will take place at NXT Stand & Deliver, which will take place over WrestleMania weekend.
