Goldberg has made a return to WWE and has his sights set on Universal Champion Roman Reigns.
Following a controversial retention of the Universal Championship at the Royal Rumble Premium Live Event, Reigns came to the ring at the start of SmackDown with The Usos and Paul Heyman to brag about the victory and costing Brock Lesnar the WWE Championship on the same show. The promo was then interrupted by Goldberg, with the Hall of Famer making his way to the ring to confront The Tribal Chief.
Goldberg said that he acknowledged Roman Reigns as his next victim, and laid down the challenge for the title match at Elimination Chamber. It should be noted that this match was originally planned for WrestleMania 36 back in 2020, but with Goldberg as the champion and Reigns as the challenger. However, Roman Reigns chose not to compete at the empty arena WrestleMania, citing health concerns as the reason. WWE have made the match official, with the following graphic being posted to their website and social media:
Whoever is victorious in this match already has their next challenger set, as Royal Rumble winner Brock Lesnar has declared that he will be challenging for the Universal Championship at WrestleMania 38. This may also be the final match in WWE for Goldberg, with the Hall of Famer stating in a previous interview that he only has one match left on his current contract. However, there is always the possibility that the former Universal Champion may re-sign with WWE in the future.
