The original plans for Jeff Hardy in WWE have been revealed, according to a new report. As reported by Fightful Select, the former WWE Champion was due to have a stint in NXT.
As noted in the Fightful Select report, Hardy was originally planned to be the “Shaman” for NXT tag team MSK. However, due to Hardy being released by WWE, the release “left the company scrambling” for a last minute replacement as a new “Shaman.” In vignettes released shortly after NXT WarGames, the “Shaman” for MSK was revealed to be Raw Tag Team Champion Riddle.
The inclusion of Hardy as the “Shaman” seemed to be a long term project, as it has been described that “numerous segments on the cutting room floor” featured Jeff as the ally to MSK.
As seen at NXT: New Year’s Evil, Riddle teamed with MSK to face the Imperium faction of WALTER, Fabian Aichner and Marcel Barthel. According to Fightful, it is unknown whether this was also the original plan for Hardy. At New Year’s Evil, the team of Riddle and MSK were victorious, following Riddle hitting an RKO onto Marcel Barthel.
As previously noted, Jeff Hardy was released from his WWE contract on December 9th, 2021, with the reported reason being that Hardy refused rehab and additional help as offered by WWE. As this is a main roster release, it is believed that Hardy will be under a 90 day no-compete clause. This means that the earliest that the former WWE superstar can appear for another promotion is Wednesday March 9th, 2022.
