Beth Phoenix Makes Appearance At WWE Day 1

Beth Phoenix made a surprise return to WWE TV at the Day 1 pay-per-view. The WWE Hall of Famer appeared during the match between Edge and The Miz to help even the odds and enable her husband Edge to pick up the victory.

During the match between The A Lister and The Rated R Superstar, Miz’s wife Maryse frequently interfered throughout the match, including lacing The Miz’s foot on the ropes to break a submission attempt by Edge. The breaking point came when Maryse hit Edge while the referee was distracted, to which The Miz took advantage of by hitting the Skull Crushing Finale. The match appeared to be over at this point, but The Miz only managed to get a 2 count from this.

Shortly after the near fall, the crowd inside the State Farm Arena in Atalanta started cheering loudly. The camera then cut to the top of the entrance ramp to see Beth Phoenix standing at the top of the stage. The Glamazon then proceeded to chase off Maryse, which gave Edge enough time to recover and hit the spear onto The Miz to pick up the victory. The husband and wife duo of Edge and Beth Phoenix then posed together in the ring as The Miz and Maryse retreated to the back.

Prior to this return, Beth Phoenix was seen in NXT as part of the commentary team. However, in a social media update in December 2021, the Hall of Famer announced that she would be stepping away from the desk after the WarGames pay-per-view.

It had been speculated that the reason behind the departure from the NXT commentary team was to train for an in-ring return. Following the events of WWE Day 1, it appears that a mixed tag team match of The Miz and Maryse vs. Edge and Beth Phoenix may be taking place in the future.
