AEW Title Change Spoiler

A new champion has been crowned on an AEW show due to air in the near future. On the Christmas Day edition of Rampage, Cody Rhodes defeated Sammy Guevara to become the new TNT Champion.

The match took place following the Holiday Bash edition of AEW Dynamite on December 22nd. As previously mentioned, while the match was taped after Dynamite for Rampage, the show will air on Christmas Day evening. Rhodes challenged for the championship by interrupting Guevara on an episode of Dynamite, where the open challenge was accepted for Christmas Day. Rhodes used multiple Cross Rhodes finishers and a Pedigree to pick up the victory.

This is the third reign with the TNT Championship for Rhodes. The American Nightmare was the inaugural champion following the inception of the belt in 2020. A tournament was held to crown the first champion, where Cody defeated Lance Archer in the final at Double or Nothing 2020. The second reign saw Cody Rhodes defeat Mr. Brodie Lee on the Chris Jericho 30th anniversary special episode. The third reign will begin on Christmas Day following the victory at AEW Rampage: Holiday Bash.

At the time of writing, Cody Rhodes is the only AEW wrestler to hold the TNT Championship more than once. It should be noted that due to a loss to Chris Jericho at Full gear 2019, Cody Rhodes is unable to challenge for the AEW World Championship.
