Johnny Gargano is no longer singed to the WWE according to new reports. Based on what has been seen from Gargano in both the WarGames pay-per-view and the follow up NXT, the former NXT Champion is taking some time away from the brand.

In a new report from Fightful Select, Johnny Gargano became a free agent at midnight on Friday December 10th. This means that Johnny Wrestling is now free to show up for any promotion at any time. Becasue the contract expired as opposed to a release by WWE, there is no non-compete clause for the NXT grand slam champion.

On the December 7th NXT, Gargano stated that right now the main priority is becoming a father, as he and wife Candice LeRae are expecting their first child in February 2022. It has been speculated that Gargano will be taking some time away from wrestling to focus on his family, but this could always change.

The report also states that the door has been left open on both sides for a return to WWE by Gargano. There is still a possibility that Johnny will resign for WWE, either as a part of NXT or the main roster in the near future.

Johnny Gargano has been one of the stand out stars of the black and gold era of NXT, frequently putting on great matches at the brand’s events, earning him the nickname of Johnny TakeOver. One of Gargano’s TakeOver matches that earned the highest praise was at TakeOver Philadelphia, where Johnny challenged Andrade for the NXT Championship.
