The first match for the upcoming Day 1 pay-per-view has been announced by WWE. The New Year’s Day event will see WWE Champion Big E face both Seth Rollins and Kevin Owens in a Triple Threat match for the title.
During the November 29th edition of Monday Night Raw, Seth Rollins announced that he would receive his WWE Championship opportunity at Day 1. Rollins earned the title shot by being victorious in a Fatal 4 Way ladder match earlier in the month.
However, it was revealed that an added stipulation was added to the main event of Raw. Big E was due to face Kevin Owens in a non-title match in the closing contest of the show. It was announced that if Owens was victorious, the he would be added to the match at Day 1. Seth Rollins was at the commentary table for the main event, to which Owens took advantage of. Kevin goaded Seth throughout the match, including slapping the guest commentator. Eventually, Rollins grew frustrated and attacked Owens. Due to the assault by The Visionary, Kevin Owens was declared the winner by disqualification and the match was officially made a triple threat.
The WWE Championship match is currently the only contest officially announced for Day 1. The pay-per-view will take place on Saturday January 1st at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.
