The next superstar in line to challenge for the Universal Championship was revealed on the November 26th edition of Friday Night SmackDown. Due to the events that took place on the blue brand, Sami Zayn will be the next opponent for Roman Reigns.
To decide the challenger, a Black Friday Invitational Battle Royal took place. It appeared that the final 3 in the match were Sheamus, Happy Corbin and Jeff Hardy. At one point, Corbin and Sheamus looked like they were going to team up to eliminate Hardy. However, The Celtic Warrior turned on Happy Corbin and eliminated him. The Charismatic Enigma then went on to eliminate Sheamus and it appeared that the match was over.
As Jeff Hardy thought the match was over, he started celebrating on the turnbuckle. However Sami Zayn, who went through the middle rope earlier in the match, and was not eliminated, came back into the ring and dumped Hardy over the top rope to win the title shot.
If Zayn is successful in capturing the Universal Championship, this will be the first time that Sami will have held the top title on the main roster. In his time in WWE, Sami Zayn has held the Intercontinental Championship twice and the NXT Championship once.
