A new North American Champion was crowned on the October 12th edition of NXT. The winner of the NXT Breakout Tournament, Carmelo Hayes, cashed in his opportunity to defeat Isaiah “Swerve” Scott to become the new champion.
The cash-in came following a successful defence of the title by Scott. As announced ahead of time, the now former North American Champion defended his championship against Santos Escobar. However, as the other members of the Hit Row faction were abducted by Legado del Fantasma earlier in the show, “Swerve” was on his own. During the match, Escobar’s associates Raul Mendoza and Joaquin Wilde interfered. To counter this, both Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams come to ringside to even the odds.
Isaiah “Sweve” Scott went on to retain the championship with the JLM Driver. Both Hayes and Williams celebrated in the ring with Scott following the victory. It was shortly after that Hayes struck Scott and signed his championship contract in the ring. The NXT Breakout Tournament winner hit a top rope Axe Kick to become the new champion.
This is Haye’s first championship in NXT. The opportunity came to be because the winner of the NXT Breakout Tournament won the right to challenge for any championship in NXT whenever they choose.
