Original Plans For AJ Styles And Omos Reportedly Revealed

A recent report has stated that AJ Styles and Omos were originally planned to go in a different creative direction.

As reported by Wrestle Votes, who have previously been accurate with the majority of their reports, the former Raw Tag Team Champions were due to go their separate ways in the WWE Draft. The report also states that higher ups in the company and a Raw superstar interjecting caused these plans to change.

While the split is mentioned, Wrestle Votes do not state which brand each of the superstars would have ended up on following the draft if the split were to happen. This report does follow the pattern of WWE’s current theme of splitting up existing tag teams either via the draft. The recent two night draft saw multiple tag teams split up, with one team including former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Natalya and Tamina. WWE creative have also made the decision to split multiple tag teams on-screen as well, with the most recent example being the team of Mustafa Ali and Mansoor, who are now facing each other at the upcoming WWE pay per view Crown Jewel.

The report also states that the reason to keep the team together is because Omos is not seen as ready for singles matches yet. The Giant has predominantly been featured in tag team contests with Styles. The highlight for the team came at WrestleMania 37, where the team of AJ Styles and Omos defeated The New Day to become the new Raw Tag Team Champions. They would later lose their titles to the team of Randy Orton and Riddle at SummerSlam.
