Roman Reigns vs. John Cena for the Universal Championship has been officially announced by WWE. The match will take place at SummerSlam on August 21st.
Cena opened SmackDown and continued his verbal assault on Roman Reigns from the previous appearances on WWE TV. To close the segment, the 16 time world champion was interrupted by Baron Corbin, who asked John if there were any jobs going in Hollywood. Instead, Cena gave Corbin an Attitude Adjustment.
Later on in the show, a contract signing took place between Reigns and Finn Balor. This is due to Balor issuing a challenge to The Tribal Chief on last week’s show. This segment was once again interrupted by Baron Corbin, who attacked Balor and in the process, knocked the contract out of the ring. Corbin looked like he was about to sign the contract, but instead was attacked by John Cena.
Following Corbin being thrown out of the ring, John Cena picked up the contract and signed his name. This created confusion, as despite John signing the contract, Finn’s name was stated as the competitor. Following protest by Paul Heyman on this matter, WWE official Adam Pearce has confirmed that this match is now official and will take place at SummerSlam:
This is the second match to be made official for the August pay per view. The other match currently scheduled to take place is a triple threat match for the RAW Women’s Championship. Nikki A.S.H. will defend her title against challengers Charlotte Flair and Rhea Ripley.
