Samoa Joe will be making his return to active competition at NXT TakeOver 36. Joe will be challenging Karrion Kross for the NXT Championship on August 22nd.
On the July 27th edition of NXT, Joe handed in his resignation as enforcer for the black and gold brand to General Manager William Regal. Joe then asked Regal to reactivate him as a part of the NXT active roster and put him in the NXT Title match at TakeOver 36. The General Manager signed both documents to make the match official.
The match announcement was known prior to the episode airing. The July 27th and August 3rd edition of NXT have been pre-taped and is airing on the SYFY Network. This is due to The Olympics airing on the usual channel of the USA Network.
The NXT Championship match is the second match officially announced for Sunday August 22nd. The other confirmed contest is for the WWE United Kingdom Championship. WALTER will be facing Ilja Dragunov in a rematch from their hard hitting bout from late 2020.
