Samoa Joe’s first match in over a year has been reportedly announced. Due to The Olympics airing on the USA Network, multiple episodes of NXT have been pre-taped and will be airing on the Syfy network.
The episode due to air on July 27th explains the reasonings behind Joe’s return. F4W Online states that the former NXT Champion hands in his resignation as enforcer to William Regal. The reason for this is so that Samoa Joe can face Karrion Kross for the NXT Championship at TakeOver 36 on August 22nd. Regal accepted these conditions and made the match official. Joe will be looking for revenge on Kross following the NXT Champion choking out both Joe and Regal in the past two weeks:
The return will see the first match for Samoa Joe since February 2020. Initially, Joe was released from his WWE contract back in April 2021. However, The Samoan Submission Machine made his return to NXT in the enforcer role in June.
Up until recently, Kross has been undefeated on WWE TV. The recent loss on his record came on main roster programming. The NXT Champion faced Jeff Hardy in an unannounced match on the July 19th edition of Monday Night RAW. In a surprise result, Kross lost to Hardy in his RAW debut.
NXT TakeOver 36 will take place on Sunday August 22nd.
